Jamie C. Williamson
Jamie C. Williamson, PhD is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family, Circuit-Civil, and County-Civil Mediator, a member of the Gottman Referral Network member, a member of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, and the Managing Partner of Amity Mediation Workshop, LLC.
Dr. Williamson is a contract mediator for Florida’s First and Fourteenth Circuit Courts for Domestic Relations/Family cases and a Florida Supreme Court Qualified Arbitrator, available for non-binding arbitration panels. She also is a Family Mediation Assistant Trainer and a Circuit-Civil Mediation Subject Matter Expert, approved by the Florida Supreme Court’s Dispute Resolution Center.
When mediating family cases, Dr. Williamson is a solutions-focused, transformative mediator who draws on her own family conflict research, her deep understanding of relationships, and her ethic of care, all of which come together as she empowers couples to simplify and de-stress the divorce process, remain friendly during and after the divorce, and to resolve issues in a way that serves the needs of all involved. As a member of the Gottman Referral Network, Dr. Williamson uses the Gottman Method Couples Therapy approach in her marriage revitalization work with couples. She is also a Gottman Leader authorized to deliver the Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work Couples Program and to use the Gottman Relationship Checkup when working with couples in her own “Let’s Stay Together” Marriage Refresher Course, which she developed and delivers.
Dr. Jamie C. Williamson authors the blog “Work it Out” which focuses on relationship improvement issues. She also writes a monthly column for PCB Life and is a contributor to the Huffington Post.
In the civil mediation arena, Dr. Williamson specializes in workplace issues and business/professional disputes. She adeptly blends her extensive senior-level leadership experience and her scholarship and professional practice in conflict resolution and ADR practices to help parties reach an agreement and continue working together, minimizing the human impact of the dispute, as well as the need for more formal legal remedies.
She is also contracted with the Florida Department of Financial Services to mediate residential property insurance disputes.
Dr. Jamie C. Williamson joined the mediation profession after a career in corporate communication, higher education, communication counseling, and leadership development. She worked in public affairs for large corporations, then decided to re-focus on higher education. After completing her doctorate, she served as a communication professor at the University of Florida and the University of West Florida. Later, she served as a professor and dean at Saint Louis University; vice president for academic affairs at Baker University, Millikin University, and Butler University, and as president of Winthrop University. She also provided professional development for university senior leaders as director of the Executive Leadership Group at the American Council on Education in Washington D.C.

As a former University President, Dr. Willamson is a strong advocate for academic freedom and also a proud signatory of Pen America’s Champions of Higher Education Statement of Purpose.
Dr. Williamson earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Communication from the School of Communication at Illinois State University and an Interdisciplinary Doctorate in Communication, Psychology, and Family Studies from the College of Social and Behavioral Science at the University of Arizona. She serves her community through a variety of philanthropic organizations and initiatives supporting education and families, including frequently speaking about and providing workshops on relationship issues.
